Incident:

2013 and 2014. Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal exhibition, different Chinese art centres.


In 2013, Chinese authorities banned the exhibition of a series of portraits of Mao that were part of a major travelling exhibition by the artist, on the grounds that they were disrespectful to Mao Zedong. The works were not exhibited so as not to offend any political sensitivities.


Biography:

Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh, 1928 - New York, 1987) was a controversial and provocative artist and an icon of pop art. He used the serial repetition of images in his art, linked to popular culture and fame to reflect on art and society. There are two museums in the United States dedicated to his work.
