Incident:

2012. ARCO (Feria Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo), IFEMA, Madrid.


The Fundación Francisco Franco demanded the removal of the artwork from the ARCO 2012 art fair for being offensive. It also denounced the artist for his “unlawful intrusion upon the honour” of the dictator. The legal proceedings and subsequent appeal were dismissed. The artwork still causes reactions on social media.


Biography:

Eugenio Merino (Madrid, 1975) is an artist of great international renown who uses critical humour in his work. His pieces have been the subject of controversy on several occasions for touching on political and religious themes. He has held solo and collective exhibitions in several galleries and art centres in Europe and America.
