Incident:

2017. Ode to the Sea: Art from Guantanamo Bay exhibition, John Jay College, New York.


In 2017, an exhibition in New York of art by inmates at Guantánamo Bay received extensive media coverage. As a result, the Pentagon changed the regulations of the detention centre and prohibited the release of any artwork created inside Guantánamo. It also threatened to burn any art made by the detainees.


Biography:

Muhammad Ansi (Yemen) spent fifteen years at the Guantanamo Bay detention centre. He was released in 2017. He learnt how to paint in prison.
